Our Council is part of the CMDA's Community Based Ministries and has the purpose of giving direction and vision to the area's CMDA activities.
We serve the spiritual needs of medical and dental students and practicing doctors in the counties of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, Ventura, and San Diego.
Our Mission:
As physicians and dentists, we believe that we are in a strategic position to change hearts in healthcare on medical/dental campuses and in our communities.
We accomplish this by motivating, educating, and equiping Christian physicians and dentists to honor God by:
- living out the character of Christ in their homes, practices, communities and around the world;
- pursuing professional competence and Christ-like compassion in their daily work;
- influencing their families, colleagues, and patients toward a right relationship with Jesus Christ;
- advancing Biblical principles in bioethics and health to the Church and society.
Our Vision:
Transformed Doctors, Transforming the World
Our Core Values
We strive to fulfill our mission by our commitment to be:
- Christ-like
- Controlled by the Holy Spirit
- Committed to Scripture
- Communing in Prayer
- Compassionate
- Competent
- Courageous
- Culturally Relevant
We also believe that as more and more physicians and dentists sense in their hearts a burden for ministry, God will open doors for us to walk through.
Our responsibility will be to walk prayerfully and carefully through those doors and to empower doctors to reach their professional communities for Christ.
By His grace and with His power we will do it.
Charted by the CMDA in 2001, we are entirely self-supported.
Members:
Members of our Council include practicing physicians and dentists who share the mission and vision of the CMDA and our Council.
Medical and dental students, pastors, chaplains, nurses, administrators and other healthcare professionals also participate in the Council to give insight and support to its work.
*****
The Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA) are made up of the Christian Medical Association (CMA) and the Christian Dental Association (CDA). CMDA serves as a voice and ministry for Christian doctors.
Founded in 1931 by medical students in Chicago, Illinois, CMDA provides programs and services supporting its mission to "change hearts in healthcare" with a current membership of more than 17,000.
CMDA promotes positions and addresses policies on healthcare issues; conducts overseas medical evangelism projects through its mission arm, Global Health Outreach; coordinates a network of Christian doctors for fellowship and professional growth; sponsors student ministries in medical and dental schools; distributes educational and inspirational resources; hosts marriage and family conferences; provides Third World missionary doctors with continuing education resources; and conducts academic exchange programs overseas.
By being the "hands of Jesus" to needy people, CMDA seeks to fulfill His Great Commandment (Matthew 22:39; 25:36) and His Great Commission (Matthew 28:19).
